Expanding Resilience: day two

Full Body Tune Up

Did you know that your body holds stored emotions?

You may have heard that “the body keeps the score”(to quote the well known book by Dr. Bessel Van Der Kolk). And it’s true! Emotions basically ARE sensations, and they can get stuck - especially in our joints. Our joints are like little gateways that connect different parts of our bodies together. So when difficult emotions get stuck in the joints, it’s like the little doors close and the sensations stay trapped.

The good news is, by rolling out your joints, you can physically create more space for your emotions to flow. It’s like opening up the gateways (or oiling the hinges) in your body so that energy to move in a healthy way through your whole body, and you can release long held stress & tension.

This is my favorite go-to movement practice that I like to do every morning as a way to expand my emotional capacity and say “hello” to my body from head to toe. It’s a gentle and do-able way to get some movement and flow going even on days when you don't feel like moving much.

Do-able practice invitation:

Set aside 20 minutes to follow along with the guided movement practice

This gentle, trauma-informed movement session guides you through the practice of nourishing your joints starting with your ankles and moving to your knees, hips, shoulders and neck. You can access this practice while standing, sitting or lying down, and there are plenty of options offered for each movement so that it is adaptable for different bodies.

As always, everything offered here is an invitation and you are encouraged to listen to your body, your intuition and especially your limits while exploring the practice. Please feel free to modify, pause, skip or change the movements as you go. If you are new to this kind of somatic practice, you are welcome to watch the video first, to know what to expect.
